Payment
Plan and other financial details: A
deposit of $300 dollars per person is required as soon as possible in
order to secure your place. Please bring your deposit checks to Profs.
Hadjiyannis or Graziani or to Sandi
Delabar, Secretary of Social Sciences Department, or mail them to our SSU
address or put in an envelope and push under our offices' door. Make
check payable to “Shawnee State University.” If a participant can pay for
the entire cost of the trip in one payment it is recommended that they
should do so at this stage.
When
you give us your deposit please indicate to us if you:

If

Phone number
As soon as enough participants to make the trip a go have turned in their
checks you will be notified by e-mail that your deposits are about to be
cashed. If you decide to cancel on the trip your check will
be returned to you. Otherwise, I will give the checks to SSU's
business office so that they can be cashed. SSU will then wire the money
to the travel agency in Britain for our land package and to the airlines
as deposits in reserving our tour. Once your check has been cashed and
advance payments have been made you can still cancel but there will
a cancellation penalty imposed by the agent.
Please note: You can pay in installments providing that complete payment
is made by three months prior to departure. The payment plan contains a
certain degree of flexibility but please try to be prompt. Please
let me know as soon as problems with your payments develop. All
payments will be made to the same name, i.e. "Shawnee State
University"
All participants will need a valid passport. For non-US
passport holders please check with your country’s consulate or with the
British consulate/embassy on the Internet. If you do not already have
a passport you
need to apply for one ASAP. Currently the estimated time to receive a
passport is 10 weeks. The total cost for a passport is $97. This
includes the application fee $67, and the execution fee $30. If you are
applying for a passport for the first time, you must apply in person.
However, you can download the form that you need. Go on-line at
www.travel.state.gov and download a copy of the DS 11
passport form. You can apply for your passport by going to the
Scioto County Clerk of Courts, 602 7th Street (355-8226) or
Portsmouth Main Post Office 610 Gay St. (353-7579). When applying, you
must bring a valid driver's license and an original birth certificate or
a certified copy of it. You must also bring 2 official passport
photographs. You can get those at Wal-Mart or at the local AAA office.
For more information visit
http://www.travel.state.gov/passport/get/first/first_830.html. If
you don’t order your passport ahead of time, you can expedite the
process and receive your passport in 2 weeks. You will need to pay an
additional service fee of $60, plus $27 the cost of overnight delivery
services; the cost of this service will add $87 to the total cost for
the passport, total cost $184.
For all participants (US or non-US): The complete name you will
give us in order for us to make the airline
reservations and have the ticket issued in your name must be identical
to the name in your passport.
Please note: Priority for
participation is for those who take the tour as students. You will need
to register for either one or both classes, as you do with your other
classes, when spring semester registration begins.
If less than 25 students are
enrolled there will be space for “community members” to join the
group. “Community members” are defined as any person willing to
participate. Priority will be given to relatives/significant
others/friends of enrolled students. You are welcome to submit their names
(and deposit money). They will be accepted on a first signed up basis.
There will be 3 to 4 pre-trip
orientation group meetings. Participants will be notified accordingly and
in a timely manner when those will occur. All participants are required to
attend these. Many aspects of the trip and travel advisories will be
discussed. The “omicron” Internet site listed above contains a wealth
of info in this regard. Please consult it often. There will also be a
series of meetings of an academic nature. All enrolled students are
required to attend. Non-student participants may attend if they so wish.
Finally, we look forward to
being your professors and guides in a great study tour such as this if past
trips are an indication of their worth. Please see us for any questions
not discussed here or elsewhere in this site and keep revisiting this site
for updates
