Two travel/study abroad courses
one unforgettable travel experience: A virtual tour
The SOCI 499S course, taught by professor Stylianos
Hadjiyannis, Ph.D., aims to expose SSU students to British
culture(s), history, and artistic expressions; expand their horizons
through travel; and enable them to think globally. The ARTS 4999 - 06 (Experiencing Art in Britain)
course, taught by professor Isabel Graziani, Ph.D., is designed as a
hands-on approach to learning art history. Students will be able to
visit some of the best museums in the world, the British Museum and the
Tate National Gallery. A highlight for this program includes the once in
a lifetime special temporary exhibition of "The First Emperor:
China's Terracotta Army" and "Turner's Experiments on Colour and Line."
This course will count toward one of the Art History core requirements
3XXX.
The quote did not include any meals other than breakfast. Please note: London is one
of the top ten most expensive cities in the world and the dollar has
not been faring very well vs. the British pound. At free of charge,
however, we will be able to enjoy the British Museum and the Tate National Gallery;
both sites exhibit some
of the most stunning expressions of human creativity. Entrance fees to
other sites of interest and public transportation can amount to an
additional $100 or so. Student discounts do apply and you will need
to bring along and show your SSU student ID.
Please note: All participants must
purchase travel insurance, which includes medical insurance plus a
lot more. Visit
this site for complete information. The premium for the duration
of our trip costs $50. Click here for trip itinerary, payment plans,
and procedures on how to join Briefly here: These courses are open to all majors. There are no
prerequisites for these courses. Please consult with
your advisor on how these
courses would apply to your degree requirements.
These are spring semester 2008 courses. You can register for these
courses in the same way you register for other courses when spring
semester 2008 registration begins during fall semester.
However, you need to pay for the travel segment of these courses as
soon (see also the instructions in the "trip itinerary..." link
above.
Students should also consult with the Office of Financial Aid in case
financial help could be available.
A generous CIPA grant of $2000 to be shared equally among
students who will be taking this trip as enrolled students in one or
both courses is
available. Reservations need to be made early and are now being accepted. Space is
limited. Non-students are
also welcomed depending on space availability. Passports are
required for travel to Britain. Passport applications and instructions
can be obtained at at the local Post Office. In the map below, the
cities we will visit are boldfaced. Click on map to view a larger
image. Please note: this map is schematic and cannot show fully all the
places we will visit during our three day tour.
All travel arrangements of SSU's tours to Britain are made by
Salta Tours agency based in London, Britain. Without
Mats of Salta Tours, we strongly believe, none of these tours would have been as
successful. Contact the site administrator
