Global politics appears to be in a state of anarchy, underlined by the
quick resort to war as a presumably quick and efficient way to sort out a
variety of issues. Indeed, statistics also appear to support such a state
of affairs: since World War II, that is for almost six decades, there
has never been a single day during which no less than five wars were
taking place somewhere in the world. Although such stats do not lie there
is another way of looking at world affairs. Let us see: there are at least
210 nations on this world and at least 6.4 billion people. Yesterday, with
the exception of the five wars involving a few million or less people, the
rest of the nations and all these other people went through their lives
without fighting and indeed most of them accomplished acts worth
mentioning, acts that advance human civilization, acts that are worth
mentioning and imitating by the rest of us. Unfortunately very little of
it was ever reported or studied or reached the so call mass audience of
the world. We simply focus on the exception to the rule, we do this
on a daily basis, and before long most of us think or sense that that is
all there is out there, the exception, which itself has for us
become the norm. While conflict and war is a reality, I can also assure
you that this is one safe and orderly world.
